1. At the age of 68 Steichen was named director of photography at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
2. At his 90th birthday celebration, he said, "When I first became interested in photography, I thought it was the whole cheese.
3. His family settled in Hancock, Michigan, in 1881, where the father worked in a copper mine.
4. He served as a judge of submissions for U.S. Camera Annual in 1943. He is responsible for the publication of Ansel Adams' famous image titled ‘Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico’.
